Movie Reviews: “Haywire” and “My Week with Marilyn”
This morning on KARZ-TV’s morning show I reviewed “Haywire” and “My Week with Marilyn.”
“Haywire” is director Steven Soderbergh’s latest film and stars newcomer, and martial arts fighter, Gina Carano. Carano is a secret agent working with a private company that is often contracted by the government and conducts secret missions around the world. Carano is double-crossed by someone in her organization and she sets out to find the betrayer, with a vengeance. Carano, while a mediocre actress, is a first-rate action star and her fight skills and charisma shines through. And, in her defense, when considering male action stars, how many of them would you consider top-notch actors?
“Haywire” is a fun thriller and action flick.
“My Week with Marilyn” stars recent Golden Globe winner Michelle Williams in the starring role. It’s based on a true story of when Marilyn went to England to shoot a film with Sir Laurence Olivier and struck up a quirky friendship with a young man who serves as a gopher on the movie set. Williams embodies the role as Marilyn and captures the complexities of Marilyn’s character and persona. I wouldn’t be surprised if Williams receives an Oscar nomination for her role.
