The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality announced recently a new search tool on its website designed to help citizens obtain pollution- and inspection-related information.

The website — www.adeq.state.ar.us — now features a “New Complaints and Inspections Search Form” under the Hot Topics header. By choosing that option, complaints and inspections can be searched by city. The database also can be searched by company name.

“We cannot be everywhere at once, so we rely on the eyes and ears of Arkansans to tell us about pollution in their community,” ADEQ director Teresa Marks said in a news release. “We hope this access of information strengthens that partnership.”

According to the release, ADEQ performed 6,000 routine inspections in 2010, as well as an additional 1,900 inspections prompted by complaints.
