Hundreds of dedicated shoppers came out on Thursday night (December 8) to support Central Mall’s eighth annual Night of Giving Charity Event.

The event was sponsored by BancorpSouth.

For only $5, shoppers were admitted to the mall, after normal business hours, to get some late night retail therapy. Merchants opened their doors and treated customers to special discounts and drawings. Many also offered free gifts with a minimum purchase amount.

Volunteers from several area organizations donated their time to work at check-in and to serve at the gift wrapping station located at the food court. Shoppers could drop off their items to be wrapped, free of charge, and pick them up on their way home.

Many of the retailers expressed their appreciation in being able to participate in the event. Brenda Cox with American Eagle said that that her store is glad to be a part of something that benefits so many worthy organizations.

“American Eagle is proud to be a part of Night of Giving and has participated every year,” said Cox. “It is a great way to get people out and in the Christmas spirit.”

More than 40 stores and restaurants offered special discounts and deals as part of the event. Several eateries handed out free samples.

Throughout the evening, door prizes, including special gift packs and store gift cards were awarded. Drawings were held every half hour with the grand prize, a $150 American Express gift card, awarded at the final 11:30 p.m. drawing.

All proceeds from this year’s event benefitted eight local non-profit organizations including Children’s Service League, Crime Stoppers of Fort Smith and Van Buren, Developmental Wings, Fort Smith Lions Club, Heart to Heart Pregnancy Support Center, Lincoln Childcare Center, Make a Wish, and the River Valley Tobacco and Drug Free Coalition.
