Warren Stephens’ Alotian Club To Host Prestigious Amateur Tournament
The Alotian Club — Warren Stephens’ golf oasis in western Pulaski County — will host the prestigious Western Amateur golf tournament in July 2013.
The Western Amateur, which will host its 111th tournament at Alotian, has showcased many of golf’s greatest talents. Previous winners include Jack Nickalaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Curtis Strange, Andy North, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Watson, and the legendary Bobby Jones.
“We’re very fortunate to be able to bring our world-class amateur championship to such a highly-regarded facility,” said Vince Pellegrino, vice-president of tournaments for the Western Golf Association.
The WGA originally planned to take the 2013 Western Amateur to Olympia Fields Country Club south of Chicago, but the Alotian invitation was too good to pass up, Pellegrino said.
The Western Amateur is a combination stroke play and match play competition and will stretch over the course of a week beginning Monday, July 29, 2011.
