U.S. Senator Mark Pryor (D) unveiled his version of a jobs bill in Little Rock on Friday.

The state’s senior senator outlined a six-part proposal aimed at reducing regulation, providing tax reform and investing in education, infrastructure and new technology.

John Lyon with our content partner, the Arkansas News Bureau, reports on Friday’s press conference:

Speaking at a news conference at the Little Rock headquarters of Acxiom, Pryor said the first point of the plan involves “setting the table for growth” by limiting regulations on business, opening new trade markets, reforming the tax code and reducing the deficit.

A bill Pryor co-authored with Sen. Portman, R-Ind., would require a cost-benefit analysis of any new regulation and would require that any new regulation employ the least burdensome means of achieving its goal. It also would require that stakeholders get a seat at the table when new regulations are considered.

“I believe very strongly that what it will do is it will allow for better, faster, cheaper regulation,” Pryor said.

Simplifying the tax code and eliminating loopholes would allow taxes to be lowered and help businesses afford to create new jobs, Pryor said. He also said he has introduced seven bills this year aimed at trimming the deficit by cutting waste and fraud.

Other points of Pryor’s plan include investing in technology, infrastructure, agricultural expansion, education and training, and small business tax breaks.
