J.B. Hunt Drilling Company Fined for Safety Violations
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited J.B. Hunt Gas and Oil Drilling LLC for 12 violations, including exposing workers to electrical hazards, unguarded floor holes, inadequate eye protection and hazards involving unguarded machinery.
An Oct. 5 news release from OSHA states proposed penalties total $53,460.
J.B. Hunt Gas and Oil Drilling, based in Odessa, Texas, employs about 130 statewide. The firm registered in Arkansas as a limited liability company in 2006, and registered in Texas as a foreign LLC with a Rogers, Ark., address in 2007.
According to Dun & Bradstreet, the company is governed by Rogers-based J.B. Hunt LLC, of which Johnelle Hunt is a managing member, and Tim Graham LLC of Springdale.
OSHA’s El Paso Area Office initiated an inspection at a company well site in Garden City, Texas. The violations found are classified as serious, meaning there is substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.
The company has 15 business days from receipt of the citations to either comply, ask to meet with OSHA’s area director in El Paso or contest the citations and proposed penalties before an independent review commission.
