Nat Gas Activity Leads American Railcar To Hire 700-plus Workers
St. Joseph, Mo.-based American Railcar, which has major operations in northeast Arkansas, says it will hire up to 700 new workers at plants in Paragould and Marmaduke, Ark. and Kennett, Mo.
The Jonesboro Sun reported the news on Friday.
American Railcar manufactures train railcars, which have been in hot demand as rail transportation expands and due to an increase in requests from energy companies. Company officials tell the Sun that natural gas drilling in the region has resulted in a spike in demand for hauling sand used in the fracking process.
While 700 new workers have been hired, 500-700 more could also be employed if demand continues.
