The Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter announced recently the hiring of Steve Schotta as its new executive director.

Schotta replaces Tim Nichols. The move was effective July 1.

Schotta had been a Children’s Shelter board member for four years, and was recommended by a local recruiter after a nationwide search.

Children’s Shelter board president Scott Tassani released the following statement as part of the announcement: “Steve’s prior role on the board, business experience, strong connection to Northwest Arkansas and passion for helping the children the Children’s Shelter serves made him an ideal choice to be our new leader.”

Schotta is a native of Connecticut, and the bulk of his professional life has been spent working for Kimberly-Clark Corp.

Located in Highfill, the 48-bed Children’s Shelter provides 24-hour emergency residential care to children and teens from throughout Arkansas who are victims of abuse or neglect. It serves about 500 children per year.
