Sanders Vs. Sanders On Rick Perry
With the Iowa Caucus about a week away, I thought we might as well talk a little Presidential politics. It seems on one potential candidate – Texas Gov. Rick Perry – two Arkansas Sanders (no relation) have very different viewpoints.
State Rep. David Sanders has made no secret of the fact that he "hearts" Perry. In June, he organized a group of 20 Arkansas legislators to encourage Perry to run for President. This past week, he took a group down to Austin to meet with him in person. The Arkansas entourage included Sanders, Lt. Gov. Mark Darr, and State Rep. Bruce Westerman. I spoke with all three who sounded very excited not so much about the possibility of Perry running – but rather about him being the next President who would replace President Obama. The Houston Chronicle reports on the meeting here.
For a completely opposite viewpoint, check out the comments from Sarah Huckabee Sanders – former Arkansas first daughter and current Iowa advisor to GOP Presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty. In between filling up Pizza Ranches with Iowans to listen to Pawlenty, she had time to take some shots at Perry telling Politico:
"We haven’t seen him really be vetted; we haven’t seen him go through the day-to-day of presidential campaign rigors. So I think a lot of that’s yet to be determined, so we’re staying focused on our campaign. There have been a lot of people who said they were going to get in but didn’t, and so I think the most important thing for us is to stay focused on our campaign and our message. And that’s not going to change based on who gets in the race.”
