Montemayor wins another journalism award

Candise Montemayor of Fort Smith, public information technician in the Public Relations Office at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, received second place in a Journalist of the Year category of a competition sponsored by the 2011 West Texas Press Association.

Montemayor’s recognition came in the semi-weekly division in the 2011 WTPA Better Newspaper Contest. The WTPA is composed of weekly, semi-weekly and small daily newspapers.

Those competing in the Journalist of the Year category were judged on five original pieces written during 2010. Montemayor’s contest entries were submitted through her previous employer, the Burleson Star in Burleson, Texas.

Montemayor, who began her position at UAFS in November 2010, also received recognition this past spring in a competition sponsored by the North and East Texas Press Association.

In addition to her work for the Burleson Star, Montemayor also contributed to five other newspapers owned as part of The Star Group, which serves Johnson and Tarrant counties of North Central Texas.
