Mark Martin: Cheese With The Whine
Secretary of State Mark Martin often avoids speaking to the media, so when he does appear before the press it’s worth noting. Last week, Martin spoke to he Magnolia Rotary Club and made a bit of news claiming he’s been unfairly targeted by critics. Frankly, it sounded like he was whining about being criticized.
The Magnolia Banner News reported Martin believes any criticism should be even applied across the board.
Hmm. Let’s review which elected official’s office had the following screw-ups:
1) Wasted $54,000 to hire a consulting firm to host a new age-y retreat and teach staff how to "govern with values."
2) Wasted $24,000 on a new office SUV, even though the office already had more then 20 cars available.
3) Had to create an advisory committee to tell the office how to run the place because they had no idea.
4) Accused of demanding a state employee break the law.
5) Spent $3,000 in outside legal advice when the Attorney General’s office could have provided it for free.
6) Denied an employee’s unemployment claim even though the former staffer had good reason to quit – she refused to break the law.
Reviewing the list it’s obvious all of these mishaps/scandals/screw-ups are by Secretary of State Mark Martin’s office. No need to distribute those criticisms across the board because Martin’s office did them all.
Martin should stop whining about being criticized and get his disorganized, ineffective office in order.
