Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and to attend the 11th annual Lavaca Car Show and Fall Festival on Saturday (Aug. 27).
The car show featured eighty-five vehicles and included a wide variety of makes and models. Organized by the Lavaca Car Club, the show had entries in 21 different show classes. Cars and trucks from every era could be seen up close as owners proudly answered questions and showed off their rides. Numerous Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Corvettes and classic pick-up trucks were among just a few of the models represented.
Several unique cars were on display.
Dewayne Hicks bragged that his light aqua and cream colored 1960 Ford Thunderbird was one of only 20 of its kind still in existence. He explained that its sunroof and its 430 engine were what set it apart from other Thunderbirds and that 1960 was the first year for the car to actually include the sunroof.
Ted and Deb Laneer drove their 1958 Sentinel Red Corvette up from Clarksville to take part in the car show. Equipped with a 283 engine, Laneer worked diligently to restore the car and to ensure that all parts were the same as when the Corvette was originally built.
In addition to the car show, the fall festival featured food, booths and bounce-arounds for children. Several area restaurants, businesses and vendors had booths set up around the event. At lunch, visitors dined on everything from burgers and tamales to pizza and snocones. Live entertainment was also provided throughout the day by local artists.
The event was sponsored by the Lavaca Chamber of Commerce.
