Democratic Party Executive Director Departs Post (updated)

Less than 2 weeks after the state GOP executive director announced he would leave his party post, a Democratic counterpart will exit, too.

Amanda Nixon White
, who became the Democratic Party of Arkansas executive director earlier this year, has left her position and will be replaced by a former party director.

Dawne Vandiver, a Democratic Justice of the Peace in Pulaski County and former executive director of the Democratic Party in the mid-to-late 1990’s, will assume Nixon’s post.  Vandiver is also first Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of Arkansas.

Reasons for White’s departure were not clear in talking to party officials. She was a former district director for then Cong. Vic Snyder (D) before his term ended last year.

Two weeks ago, Arkansas GOP director Chase Dugger said he would leave his post for a private sector job by the end of August.

UPDATE: Vandiver sent this message to executive committee members on Wednesday.

Friends,

For years, I’ve been honored to work with Democrats throughout our state through our Party.

We have a great organization moving into the 2012 election cycle, and I’m excited about the opportunity to work closely with Arkansas Democrats as Executive Director of the Party. We have truly appreciated the service of Amanda Nixon White who helped us during the transition period and set us on a path towards success.

Having served as Executive Director before, I know what the job can entail. However, this is a new day in Arkansas politics. I have spoken with many of you already and have heard your concerns and your ideas. I agree we must we work to maintain our majorities in the state legislature, elect Arkansas Democrats at the local level, build a robust county party campaign structure, and ensure that Arkansas has congressional representation that represents the best interests of Arkansans.

Most of you know me and know I have an open door policy. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for all that you do for Arkansas Democrats. Let’s work together for Victory in 2012!

Sincerely,
Dawne Benafield Vandiver
