Saluting Smith

Longtime University of Arkansas athletic department staffer Bill Smith has taken a job at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La.

Smith, who most recently served as assistant athletic director for new media, perhaps is best known for his work in the now-defunct women’s athletic department. Before the UA merged its men’s and women’s departments, Smith was instrumental in establishing the Lady Razorbacks brand.

In his new role as NSU’s director of marketing and branding, Smith essentially will do for the entire university what he did for the UA women’s department. Smith’s departure represents the loss of another link to the Frank Broyles era.
