Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville announced recently that just a week after starting its membership program it had signed up 3,000 people as members.

“The response has exceeded our expectations,” Don Bacigalupi, executive director of the museum, said in a statement. “People are calling, faxing, mailing, emailing and using our website to purchase memberships. And it’s not slowing down.”

To show its appreciation for the “outpouring of support,” the museum has decided “to extend the Nov. 9 members-only preview event to member number 3,001 and beyond by keeping the doors open 24 hours,” Kathryn Roberts, director of member and guest services, said.

Crystal Bridges, an undertaking of the Walton Family Foundation and Alice Walton, is scheduled to open Nov. 11. The museum is expected to be one of the finest museums of American art in the world.

The museum said all Crystal Bridges members will be told in early fall how to get their timed tickets for the museum preview. The first 3,000 members will have the first chance to choose their times; they’ll be followed by subsequent original members.

The original membership benefits apply through Nov. 30, 2012, the museum said. Memberships are available at (479) 418-5728 and CrystalBridges.org.
