Cox Calls

Cox Communications Inc. announced June 27 its plans to introduce wireless voice and data service in much of Northwest Arkansas.

In other words, a Cox representative told us, the company “will have cellphones, and cellphones that are smartphones.”

The rest of the details are hazy.

While Cox’s service initially will cover “much of Benton and Washington counties,” the rep said, its availability is less certain. The rep said indications are sometime before the end of the year

The decision to introduce the service – already available in other areas of the country – in Arkansas apparently was based on local interest, as gauged by Cox. The company operates eight stores in Northwest Arkansas, and at least some of those stores will get makeovers as part of the new service launch.
