Art Museum features ‘Women to Watch’ exhibition
The Fort Smith Regional Art Museum presents July 1 to Sept. 15 the 2011 Arkansas Women to Watch statewide traveling exhibition. Viewing days and hours are Thursdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The exhibition, on display in Fort Smith at Second Street Live! (101 N. Second St.), features a selection of figurative works by emerging women artists chosen by the Arkansas State Committee who worked with contemporary curators in their respective regions.
This exhibition includes works by Janet Frankovic of Fort Smith, Emily Wood of Camden, Endia Gomez of Little Rock, Nikki Hemphill of Jonesboro/Harrison, Ruth Pasquine of Little Rock, Deborah Warren of Hot Springs and Thu Nguyen of Cabot.
The Arkansas State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts is a non-profit volunteer organization established as an affiliate of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), located in Washington D.C . The museum is the only one in the world dedicated exclusively to bringing recognition to the achievements of women artists of all periods and nationalities by exhibiting, preserving, acquiring, and researching art by women.
Women to Watch is a biennial exhibition program carried out in conjunction with national and international outreach committees formed by the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA). Every two years, NMWA presents a Women to Watch exhibition featuring emerging women artists. Each exhibition focuses on a specific theme that reflects compelling trends in contemporary art.
