Former Wal-Mart Executive Named CEO of 8th & Walton

Bentonville-based supplier development firm 8th and Walton named Mike Cockrell as its president and CEO on April 11.

Cockrell spent 31 years working for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. His appointment is effective April 22.

8th and Walton co-founder Matt Fifer said Cockrell distinguished himself as a key contributor to Wal-Mart’s growth during his time with the company, “which is why I am confident his leadership and vision will allow 8th & Walton to realize its growth plans.”

8th and Walton opened in 2007 and offered a single supplier education course. It now offers about 100 courses at various locations around the U.S., largely designed to help suppliers be more effective in their dealings with Wal-Mart.

Cockrell’s charge is to help 8th and Walton expand its blossoming international efforts and its services to other retailers.
