Beaver Lake Gets New Food, Fun Option

In case you Beaver Lake fans haven’t heard, one of Rogers’ most popular casual dining spots is headed your way.

JJ’s Grill, which opened in December 2008 at 4500 W. Walnut St. in Rogers and has since added locations in Fayetteville and Conway, announced plans recently to open its fourth operation — and this one floats.

Restaurant owner Jody Thornton will open JJ’s on the Lake at Prairie Creek Marina.

Thornton is leasing the building from Prairie Creek Marina owner Craig Smith.

Marina Café, owned by Michael Leach, was the tenant for the last two years, but Whispers hears a family issue forced Leach to pull out of the restaurant business.

Going back to the Boat Dock Café, it will be the third restaurant to try and make a go at this location in the last four years.

JJ’s should buck that trend. Some of us at Whispers frequent JJ’s, and it isn’t difficult to deduce that a rollicking, waterfront location will be a great match for this restaurant — and its staff.

Live music will be prominent, of course, as will outdoor seating. The restaurant also will have marina access.

Thornton authorized a pretty serious renovation that’s been ongoing the last six weeks. Because of that, he is giving himself some wiggle room on the opening date. Whispers hears either April 22 or April 27.

Like its predecessor, JJ’s on the Lake will  will only be open Wednesday through Sunday. Monday holidays Memorial Day and Independence Day will be exceptions.

JJ’s on the Lake will feature a different wrinkle from its other operations — breakfast. A self-service/walk-up window will be open from 8-11 a.m.
