UA DU Chapter in Sweet 16

While we here at Whispers were happy to watch Arkansas end that miserable basketball drought against Kentucky late last month, we continue to lament the fact the Razorbacks likely will not be dancing in the NCAA Tournament.

Elevating our mood somewhat, however, was the news the UA’s student-driven chapter of Ducks Unlimited has been recognized as part of the organization’s Sweet 16. That essentially is an annual list of the top-producing college chapters across the country.

To qualify, chapters had to raise more than $11,000 in grassroots income during the 2010 calendar year. David Schuessler, DU’s national director of said grassroots fundraising, told us the UA chapter raised a net of $12,063.

DU’s nearly 120 college chapters combined to raise more than $500,000, with more than half of that coming from the Sweet 16 schools. For those keeping score, other Southeastern Conference schools included in the Sweet 16 are Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State.
