Diesel Fuel Tax Bill Re-referred To Committee
Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson (R-Little Rock) has re-referred a hastily-passed diesel fuel tax bill to the Sen. Transportation Committee.
Yesterday, HB 1902 by House Speaker Robert Moore (D-Arkansas City) quickly cleared the committee under a cloud of controversy as Chairman Sen. Linda Chesterfield (D-Little Rock) ruled the measure had enough votes to pass.
There were only 4 committee members in the room and one was opposed. The bill needed 5 votes to clear the transportation panel.
Hutchinson said that there are a few amendments that Senators want to add to the bill, including a provision that would only allow one attempt for the 5-cent diesel fuel tax hike to be presented to voters.
