The Greenwood High School Senior Class of 2011 hosted their annual Prom Fair on Saturday (Feb. 19). The class sold used prom dresses on commission with the graduating class retaining 20% of sales to benefit their senior class fund. The fair was open to the public.

More than 200 barely worn dresses for prom, pageants, cotillions and formal events were available. Vendors were also present with new 2011 corsages and boutonnières and spray tanning. Accessories including shoes, purses, and jewelry were also available to purchase.

The dresses ranged in size from 0-14 and up. The girls were able to find glitzy and glamorous shoes in black, silver, and gold to match their dress. Dresses that were big and frilly to straight, colorful and pageant style were among the mix of dresses in almost every color. Dresses ranged in price from $50-$200. A new dress can cost anywhere from $200 and up.

BronZ-N-Go mobile airbrush tanning was one of the vendors present at the fair. Groups of six or more cost $20 each or an individual spray will be $30.

The Fragrant Garden was on hand showing the latest and newest in boutonnières and corsages. The latest fashion in corsages is to use a beaded bracelet to hold the flowers or an arm bracelet that the flowers attach to that is worn on the upper arm. Head bands can also have flowers attached to them and worn in the hair.

Area teenage girls wanting to find a dress to meet her style and personality at a bargain price shopped the GHS prom fair with most finding that “perfect dress.” Prom is about finding that dress that accents your best features, makes you feel beautiful, be yourself, and let your personality shine through.

Sarah Campbell drove three hours to Greenwood on Friday night to get to the sale when it opened at 8 a.m. to find that perfect dress. Her grandmother, Neva Robberson, lives in Booneville and told her granddaughter about the sale. Sarah is a junior at Bismarck, Ark. (near Lake DeGray in south Arkansas) and this is her first prom.

Not only did Sarah find a beautiful dress at a bargain, she got to spend some quality time with her grandmother and mother for the weekend doing what a girl loves to do the most — shop.
