City Partners with JBU on Wind Turbine Project

Students studying renewable energy at John Brown University soon will benefit from the use of a 60-foot wind turbine.
The 3.5-kilowatt Windspot Turbine was donated by Spanish manufacturer Sonkyo Energy as part of a research collaboration. JBU students and faculty will conduct a one-year study using the turbine, which will be tied to the Siloam Springs city grid and power the trail lights at the university.
The turbine is expected to produce 2,000-3,000 kilowatts per year.
“It has been great to work with the City of Siloam Springs on this project,” JBU director of facility services Steve Brankle said in a news release. “Once they gave the project approval, we began the groundwork for the turbine. We hope to have it installed and producing power by early February.”
JBU offers two degree programs in renewable energy.
