Rankings Redo?

Just two days after Arkansas Business published a story about financial struggles at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, we came across an interesting item on Fortune magazine’s website.

The site ranked ACH as No. 75 on its list of the top 100 employers in the United States. Fortune asked, “What makes ACH so great?”

Here’s part of the answer: “The only pediatric hospital in Arkansas provides employees with on-site child care, a 20,000- square-foot gym, and a defined-benefit pension.”

According to ACH president and CEO, however, some employee benefits will be trimmed to help offset a shortfall of $7 million in net income. We’re not sure when Fortune’s rankings will be updated, but it’s anybody’s guess if ACH will remain in the mix.
