Forty Under 40: Mandy Hougland, 37
Mandy Hougland held a variety of jobs before deciding she wanted to work for a Walmart supplier. The Rogers native got her chance when she was hired by Clorox Co. in 1999.
“I soon realized that if I wanted to advance, I needed more education,” Hougland said.
Hougland spent several years studying part time at Northwest Arkansas Community College, and eventually earned a degree from John Brown University. She landed a job at Dorel Industries in 2005.
“The world took on new life,” she said.
Now Hougland is in charge of Dorel Juvenile’s replenishment and supply chain function for Walmart. Dorel is the world’s largest juvenile products manufacturer.
“My job is to serve Walmart, serve the customer, and fix problems,” she said.
Hougland’s other job is to help others follow a similar path. She was recruited to write course material for NWACC’s Introduction to Supply and Retail Replenishment course, and now teaches there year-round.
“I love it,” Hougland said. “I really enjoy helping people find the next level in their life.”
A photography buff, Hougland also has been part of the Northwest Arkansas Business Women’s Conference for 10 years, and will chair the event in 2014 and 2015.
“As long as I continue to grow and impact people’s lives in a positive way,” she said, “there are no limits.”
