Fast 15: April Seggebruch
As a Lady Razorback, April Seggebruch earned a reputation for her drive to perform well on the basketball court.
“That’s just how I am in life, I think,” she said in an interview during her senior year. “I work my hardest not to disappoint people and not to disappoint myself.
“I set high expectations for myself, and I also admire so many people that I want to perform well for them as well as myself, not just in basketball, but all walks of life.”
Originally from Cissna Park, Ill., Seggebruch was recruited to play basketball at the UA and graduated cum laude in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She returned home — but not for long.
“I tried to run back to Chicago, but after only 18 months I missed Northwest Arkansas and came back to get my master’s,” she said.
She completed an MBA in finance and entrepreneurship in 2008.
While in grad school, Seggebruch and fellow students developed MerchantView, which provides software for tracking and reporting retail activity. She and partner Stan Zylowski officially launched the company in June 2010, and Seggebruch is responsible for securing future funding of $2 million-$6 million for the company.
“I enjoy the private equity arena,” she said, “and whether it is in the actual hands-on management of early stage to growth-stage companies or on the investment side, I want to stay in this industry.”
An adjunct instructor at the UA since 2009, Seggebruch mentors and coaches SAKE, a student-run business that markets framed diplomas featuring proprietary images of the campus.
Asked about her five-year career goals, Seggebruch said, “How about a five-month goal? Five years is a long way away.”
Her community involvement includes serving on the Rogers Public Library Foundation’s board of directors and Pagnozzi Charities’ board of advisers.
Seggebruch keeps moving even in her “down” time, and enjoys running, mountain biking and racquetball. Lately she’s tried to read more, “but to be honest it hasn’t quite stuck,” she said.
“I find it to be a struggle to fully relax, but I’m working on it.”
