A Day In The Life Of Ryan Mallett
One high-profile Arkansan is going through a major career change.
Having declared his pro eligibility, Arkansas Razorback quarterback Ryan Mallett is in Texas prepping for pro scouts and the NFL Draft.
Robbie Neiswanger with our content partner, the Arkansas News Bureau, reports:
Arkansas’ record-setting quarterback has temporarily relocated to Texas and is one of a handful of athletes training at the Athletes’ Performance facility just outside of Dallas the next two months. It’s set up to prepare him for the rigors of the NFL interview process. So every bit of the work is necessary.
“The only days he gets off are Sundays,” said Fayetteville-based attorney J.R. Carroll, who Mallett selected along with California-based agent David Dunn to represent him.
Neiswanger shares a story about the phone exchange between Mallett and Razorback head coach Bobby Petrino.
He received plenty of encouragement from Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino and offensive coordinator Garrick McGee about the move, too. Both told Mallett he worked hard at Arkansas for three years and was prepared for the NFL. Petrino even cracked a joke when the quarterback called to say he was leaving.
“He said, ‘You called me to tell me you’re coming back? Because we can win a national championship,’” Mallett said. “I was like, ‘Unfortunately coach, I’m going the other way. He said, ‘I know. I was just messing with you.’ It was good to be able to have that relationship with them where that wasn’t hard.”
Neiswanger’s story says Mallett has critics to impress if he plans to improve his draft stock and find success in the pros. You can access the full story at this link.
