Summit Medical offers new weight loss procedure

Summit Medical Center in Van Buren is offering a new surgical weight loss program. 

Dr. Travis Goodnight is performing the Laporoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, which is a weight loss procedure. Unlike the lap band, there is not a foreign body inserted. The procedure also provides all the advantages of a minimally invasive surgery: fewer wound and lung problems, less pain and faster recovery, according to a statement from the hospital.

“We have had excellent results with the procedure in our patients and we are on the pathway to becoming a Level 2 Bariatric Center of Excellence,” Goodnight said.

Summit Medical Center will conduct two educational seminars for the public about the surgical weight loss program. The events are scheduled for Jan. 6 and Jan. 25, beginning at 6 p.m. each night and held  at the Hampton Inn in Van Buren. To register, call 471-4300.
