Stitt Publishes ‘How To’ Book on Going Green
Orlo Stitt has decided there’s a higher purpose to serve by sharing much of the knowledge in his head.
r
“Sustainability shouldn’t be a secret,” he said of his soon-to-be-published book, “Holistically Green Homes: Eighteen Principals for Designing, Building and Retrofitting Your Energy Efficient Home.”
r
The book is a culmination of nearly 40 years building and outfitting homes for discerning clientele in Northwest Arkansas through his company, Stitt Energy Systems Inc. of Rogers.
r
Stitt said three publishing companies showed interest in the book, but none jumped on it, so he will self-publish the 248-page tome in late December or January. The price was set at nearly $80, but he’s considering a larger print run to dramatically lower the cost of each book. He didn’t have a price set as of press time.
r
In the short term, distribution will solely be out of the Stitt office, but he hopes to cultivate more channels in the future.
r
The book focuses on residential properties but the principles can be used in commercial properties, he said.
r
Graphics and photo illustrations provide guides to various energy-saving tips. Stitt said 70 previous clients allowed him to use photos of their projects.
r
“We’re really excited about it,” he said. “We think the market will grow. Right now it’s the size of a dime, but it will get huge.”
