McDaniel issues warning on Sugar Bowl tickets
Those prized Sugar Bowl tickets you received from a good friend or eBay may not get you in the game.
What’s more, the scalper who just happens to have two extra tickets to the game may be selling tickets that won’t be accepted at the gate.
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel issued a warning Tuesday (Dec. 28) about Ticketmaster acknowledging it issued about 3,200 duplicate tickets for the Jan. 4 Sugar Bowl game between Arkansas and Ohio State in the SuperDome in New Orleans.
“We don’t want any Arkansas fans to go to New Orleans to watch the Razorbacks only to be turned away because someone else has already entered the building on a duplicate ticket,” McDaniel said in the statement. “We encourage fans to call Ticketmaster’s hotline or visit our website to see which seats were affected. We know Ticketmaster is working hard to see that Razorback fans have a great bowl-game experience despite this issue, and we at the Attorney General’s office want to make sure of that as well.”
The statement from McDaniel’s office included the following points.
• Ticketmaster says the duplicates were not distributed in a way where two individuals hold a ticket for the same seat. Instead, buyers received more than one ticket for the seat purchased. Ticketmaster has contacted those buyers and asked that the duplicates be destroyed.
• Ticketmaster officials have said that they believe most of the duplicate tickets will be destroyed or otherwise accounted for before the game. However, there’s a possibility that some resellers may attempt to sell the duplicate tickets.
• According to Ticketmaster, barcodes will be scanned at entry gates and only one ticket per seat will be accepted. That means fans who may have unintentionally bought duplicate tickets may be denied access to the game.
• Ticketmaster has confirmed that none of the affected tickets were purchased as part of the allotments given to the University of Arkansas or Ohio State.
McDaniel said fans can visit the AG’s website to see a spreadsheet which lists by section, row and seat all the tickets that were affected.
Also, Ticketmaster has also set up a “Sugar Bowl Hotline” — (877) 464-5845 — for fans with question about the duplicate tickets.
