Wal-Mart to web cast with Wall Street
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will web cast its annual meeting with the investment community on Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct. 12-13), providing the first big opportunity for analysts and investors to quiz members of the retailer's revamped U.S. executive team.
The entire presentation will be web cast online, including slide presentations and question and answer sessions. The meeting will kick off at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday with opening remarks from Chief Financial Officer Tom Schoewe, and the keynote dinner presentation from Leslie Dach, executive vice President, corporate affairs and government relations.
Schoewe will make one of his final presentations to analyst and investors in his capacity as Wal-Mart's chief financial officer. Two weeks ago, the Wal-Mart board of directors elected Charles Holley to succeed Schoewe as the company's chief financial officer.
Schoewe will stay on until Jan. 31 to help with the transition, but Holley will assume the company's top financial position at the end of November.
In late June, Wal-Mart began overhauling its U.S. operations after announcing that Bill Simon had been promoted to president and CEO of Walmart U.S., reporting directly to Wal-Mart President and CEO Mike Duke.
Simon replaced Vice Chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright, who was appointed president and CEO of Global.com and Global Sourcing.
Last month, Simon began reshuffling Wal-Mart's top merchandising operations by naming four new product heads to run its American stores. Simon took over his position after Wal-Mart reported five consecutive quarters of declining U.S. same-store sales, a key indicator of corporate health in the retail industry.
However, overall income for the global retail giant has seen a steady increase from $12.731 billion in fiscal year 2008, to $14.335 billion in fiscal year 2010.
Duke will kick-off Wednesday's schedule with a discussion the Wal-Mart's overall strategy and priorities. He will be followed with presentations from by Sam's Club and Wal-Mart International executive teams, which are led by Brian Cornell and Doug McMillon, respectively.
Simon and his U.S. operations team will then provide investors with an overview of the company's U.S. strategy and operations. Castro and his Global Sourcing and Global eCommerce team will be next on the agenda, followed by a consolidated financial update by Holley.
Duke will close the session on Wednesday afternoon.
Shares of Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) opened Monday at $54.52. During the past 52 weeks, the share price has ranged from a $56.27 high to a $47.77 low.
