Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will host a mission on five consecutive evenings in October. The mission will be led by two Redemptorist priests; Fr. Jose Arturo Uribe, CSSR and Fr. John Kuehner, CSSR from Chicago. The Redemptorists have a long history of preaching missions in the United States. The parish mission is an extraordinary preaching event. God’s Word is proclaimed through the Bible and through the life, learning and personal experience of the preacher. The mission begins at 7pm on Sunday, October 3 and continues each of the next four evenings, concluding on Thursday evening. Each evening the teachings will be held in both English and Spanish.

The themes, symbols, topics and goals of the preaching, reflections and renewal are different each evening:

Sunday, October 3, 7pm – The symbol for this evening is the Bible, representing God’s communications to allpeople. The topic is Salvation: God’s dream for our happiness and our response. The goal is to deepen our acceptance of God’s tremendous love for us.

Monday, October 4, 7pm – The symbol this night is the Crucifix, representing Jesus’ way of life through death. The topic is Jesus as Savior: Who is Jesus for us? The goal is to renew personal faith in Jesus as Savior.

Tuesday, October 5, 7pm – The symbol this night is the Easter Candle, representing the rising Jesus, the Lord of light and healing. The topic is sin, reconciliation and healing, living the life of conversion. The goal is to free ourselves of the burden of our sinfulness and of past grudges and pain.

Wednesday, October 6, 7pm – The symbol this evening is bread, representing Jesus, the Bread of Life. The topic is the Eucharist, nourishment for our strength in our journey through life. The goal is our appreciation of the Eucharist and how this grace strengthens us in our witness of our faith to others.

Thursday, October 7, 7pm – The symbol this evening is the Altar, representing Jesus pouring himself out for us. The topic is our Mission, our calling to go out and share in the work of Jesus Christ and the Church. The goal is to become more aware of how we need to go forward and proclaim the Good News.

All are invited to attend any or all of the evenings. After each session, which will last about one hour and 15 minutes, there will be refreshments provided and a chance for fellowship. In addition to the evening sessions, there will be shorter sessions offered after the 7am weekday Masses on October 4 – 7.
