ATU-Ozark, Charleston partner on adult education center

Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus and the Charleston Public School District have partnered to open an adult education office in Charleston.

It will be the first adult education office south Franklin County, according to the ATU-Ozark statement.

“The Charleston School District is an excellent partner in education. This project is just another way they have demonstrated their commitment to the community,” said Ken Warden, ATU-Ozark chief business and community outreach officer.

The center will provide basic skills instruction in reading, math, writing, English as a second language, and GED preparation. Adult students may enroll at anytime during the school year and complete the program when their goals have been reached. All classes are free.

Program length depends on each student’s skill level at enrollment and the amount of time and effort from each adult. Assessment is made to determine the person’s needs to begin study at their level.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our office to extend its reach and better serve the adult learners of the region,” said Brad Kent, Franklin/Logan County adult education coordinator said,
