Arkansas tight end D.J. Williams made the decision last spring to bypass the NFL draft and return for his senior year as a Razorback. Today (Aug. 16) he was named to the 2010 John Mackey Award preseason watch list that is presented annually to college football’s top tight end.
Williams was a finalist for the honor last year.
During his career in an Arkansas uniform Williams has totaled 1,228 receiving yards and 98 career receptions. Williams was also named second team All-SEC last year by the league’s coaches.
Williams is from Little Rock, and is a graduate of Central Arkansas Christian School. The winner of the award will be announced Dec. 9, 2010.
Other SEC players named to the watch list are:
Marcus Green, Mississippi State
Weslye Saunders, South Carolina
Luke Stocker, Tennessee
Aron White, Georgia
The award honors former Baltimore Colt John Mackey. Mackey was the second tight end inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1992. Mackey is widely known for his community work and leadership on the field.
