Only 32 candidates have filed for the 69 Crawford County municipal positions up for reelection in November.

Filing opened on Aug. 4 and runs through Aug. 24.

The county clerk’s office believes activity will accelerate as the deadline draws near.

So far, there are seven people have filed in five of the county’s mayors’ races:
• Alma – Woodrow (Woody) Stewart
• Cedarville – Richard Harris
• Dyer – Randy Beard
• Mountainburg – Ralph Bryant and Stanley Moore
• Mulberry – Tiffany Reedy-Robinson and Gary Baxter

None of these candidates is an incumbent.

So far no one has filed to run as mayor in Van Buren, Chester, Kibler, or Rudy. However, Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman, Alma Mayor John Robert Ballentine, and Rudy Mayor Bill Rogers have announced plans to seek reelection.

There are also a few contested races for city council.  In Mulberry, Michael Burkholder and Raylene Adams have filed for Ward 1, Position 2.  And in Mountainburg, Bobby Dean and Don Marshall are vying for Ward 3, Position 1.

Candidates have eleven more days until filing ends in Crawford County.
