One in five new TV purchases in the U.S. in 2013 will be a 3DTV, according to In-Stat, a product research company.

Year-over-year shipment growth will be 231% between 2010 and 2011, resulting in a doubling of the U.S. installed base of units for 3DTVs from 2010 to 2011, according to In-Stat.

“High definition did create a wave of activity in the US market, not seen since the introduction of color,” Stephanie Ethier, In-Stat analyst, said in a statement. “3DTV promises to be the next significant innovation wave for living room entertainment.”

• E-Reader shipments will more than double in 2010 versus 2009.

• The installed base of MIDs/Tablet personal computers will surge to nearly 20 million by 2013.

• By 2013, there will be 1.9 billion installed consumer electronci devices in the U.S.
