Syngenta Team Joins Sustainability Program
Syngenta, which provides agricultural materials to farmers and encourages crop production, has teamed with the Sustainability Consortium, an organization composed of corporations worldwide focused on improving consumer product sustainability, according to a University of Arkansas press release.
Syngenta has already set goals to increase food-security for a global population of nine billion people before 2050. Syngenta has begun working towards its goal by creating technologies that enable the production of more crops using fewer materials.
“Syngenta contributes to the broader mission of the Sustainability Consortium with their science-based approach to productive and efficient farming systems,” said Jon Johnson, co-director of the Sustainability Consortium. “We welcome the collaboration and look forward to paving a more sustainable path for future generations.”
The consortium, jointly administered by the UA and Arizona State University, develops methodologies, tools and strategies to create new products and supply networks that address environmental, social and economic issues. The consortium is focused on addressing these issues using a scientific foundation.
Kimberly-Clark, maker of well-known consumer brands such as Kleenex, Huggies and Cottonelle, plans to join the Sustainability Consortium as a founding member, according to the UA. The consortium is composed of 47 members including Walmart, Tyson, Darden, Johnson & Johnson and Waste Management.
Syngenta is one of the world’s leading companies with more than 25,000 employees in over 90 countries dedicated to agricultural success. In the places it operates, Syngenta helps to increase crop productivity, protect the environment and improve farmers’ health and quality of life.
