Glidewell tops on contributions; Files raises more local funds
Rep. Frank Glidewell said in late April that he’d probably collected enough money for the Arkansas Senate District 13 race.
He wasn’t kidding.
Between April 1 and May 11, Glidewell collected $10,750, pushing his total campaign contributions to $60,950
Glidewell faces legislative veterans Jake Files and Jim Medley in the GOP primary for the Senate seat. The primary is the election because no Democrats filed for the seat.
According to Glidewell’s May 11 report, his expenditures totaled $28,835 and his balance going into the last few days of the race was $32,242. Of his $60,950 in contributions, at least $33,950 (or 55.7%) came from individuals and political action committees outside of the Fort Smith area. Less than $14,000 came from local sources, and more than $13,000 came from carryover funds from previous campaigns.
Glidewell’s expenditures included $1,650 to his daughter, Kelly Swaim, to help manage his campaign.
Files, however, has raised more local contributions than Glidewell. Files’ May 11 report shows $19,625 in total contributions, $10,000 in loans, expenses of $17,595 and a balance of $12,029.
Of Files’ total contributions, $16,850 come from local sources. The $2,650 from outside the area includes $2,000 from a relative in Texas.
The Secretary of State’s office does not show a required pre-election campaign finance report from Medley. It is unclear as to if whether Medley failed to file a report or the Secretary of State’s office failed to post it.
According to Medley’s March campaign finance filing, he has loaned his campaign $10,000, collected $15,845 in contributions and spent $30,755. Medley carried over about $5,600 from his previous legislative campaign. Of Medley’s contributions, $6,950 are from individuals and political action committees outside of the Fort Smith area.
