Fayetteville’s Downtown Square is about to get busier.

At least that’s the way it will go if Matthew and Camilla Holland have their say. The Hollands are on the verge of opening two businesses – a restaurant and a retail outlet – in the East Square Plaza building.

Hjem Restaurant, Matthew Holland said, will feature food that is “Northwest-specific, with Scandinavian-style cooking influences.”

“Think San Francisco and up,” Holland said, adding that a rotating menu will be heavy on seafood and include steaks and game, as well as lots of fresh fruit, mushrooms, etc.

Holland hopes to have Hjem, which will serve wine and beer, open for lunch and dinner by mid-May.

Nordic Moods, meanwhile, could be open by the end of the April. It will feature Scandinavian brands of outdoor wear and accessories like Bergans of Norway and Ilse Jacobsen, as well as ALLY pack canoes.

Alan Cole of Colliers International represented the Hollands and the building owners.
