The Physical Therapist Assistant Program (PTA) at Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus received full accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association on April 28.

The Arkansas Department of Higher Education granted the campus approval to implement a Physical Therapy Assistant Program in April 2008. The three year journey culminated what is now the forth accredited physical therapist assistant degree program in Arkansas, according to a university release.

Danny Curtis is ATU-Ozark faculty chair of the new program, which began teaching a charter class of 18 students in June 2009. The first graduating class, fully accredited, will walk in the May 15 Commencement Ceremony.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the Ozark campus, the community and for prospective students throughout the River Valley as the projected demand for physical therapists is increasing,” Curtis said.
