Mike Shupe of CEI Engineering Associates Inc. in Bentonville is one of two Northwest Arkansans set for induction into the Arkansas Construction Hall of Fame.

“This is an incredible thing,” said Shupe. “I have no idea why my name is on that list.”

The selection committee, which included a collection of industry association presidents, clearly had its reasons. One might be that after originally consisting of five employees housed in a farmhouse, CEI had 240 employees and eight to 10 offices nationwide at its peak.

Regardless, Shupe will be recognized for his career as both an industrial and civil engineer. Shupe is perhaps best known for his work in designing water and sewer plants, as well as airports.

The late Clark McClinton of McClinton Brothers Company and McClinton-Anchor Construction Company in Fayetteville, also will be honored at the April 28 ceremony.
