A $75 ticket and formal attire was all it took to be treated like a celebrity for one night.

Guests arriving at the Stubblefield Center at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith on Sunday for a Night at the Oscars were photographed by UAFS photographer Kat Wilson and interviewed by KFSM 5-NEWS personalities Ashley Ketz and Daren Bobb. Their introduction was announced to guests already in attendance by way of a live video feed projected on screens inside the arena. A short trip down a red carpet flanked by UAFS student ambassadors lead to the floor of 38 tables, hors d’oeuvres, wine, silent auction items and entertainment.

The event featured music from Academy Award winning movie soundtracks performed by the Hollywood Concert Orchestra. Emcee Shirley Jones, an Oscar winning actress, was scheduled to perform songs from her movies but was unable to sing due to voice problems. Nonetheless, the band played on and two other singers performed.

Proceeds from the event will fund the university’s cultural arts endowment which in turn funds cultural and artistic events throughout the year, said Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for Campus and Community Events.

Jones said about 300 people attended.
