KISR Kite Flight raises money for Fort Smith Dialysis Center

The crowd attending the 36th Annual KISR Community Kite Flight, Car Show and Concert could not have asked for a better day for the event to be held. The temperature hit 70-degrees and a brisk wind, well suited to kite flying, blew at Ben Geren Park on Saturday.
This year’s number of entries in the car show, 105, broke the previous record of 92 set last year.
“This was by far the biggest crowd," said KISR deejay Mike Oldham, in reference to the number of entries and spectators.
There was also plenty of fun for those not overly interested in cars. A kite flight, Frisbee events and concert by local musicians Live Sosa and Mr. Bobby Lopez rounded out the event.
Prizes of $93 (the amount coincides with KISR’s radio frequency) were awarded to winners of the highest flying kite, most unique kite, Frisbee dog, Frisbee freestyle, Frisbee distance and Frisbee target competitions. Frisbee dog was judged by the highest number of successful canine catches out of ten throws. The freestyle competition was voted on by applause from the crowd and featured tricks. The other two Frisbee events were for human competitors.
The $20 entry fee for each vehicle entered in the car show benefits the Fort Smith Dialysis Center. In addition, a 50/50 drawing was held which added more money to the coffers of the dialysis center.
"It’s a nice fun family event and it’s free; so you can’t beat that," Oldham said.
