‘Burls’ Beneficiaries to Increase
Many readers no doubt are familiar with the Brandon Burlsworth Foundation.
Set up to honor the memory and legacy of the former University of Arkansas football great, the foundation aims to support “the physical and spiritual needs of children,” particularly those with limited opportunities. One foundation program, “The Eyes of a Champion,” provides free eye exams and eyeglasses to low-income, uninsured children.
The original goal of the program, which has been run with the help of Walmart since 2007, was to make it available to every public school nurse in Arkansas. The idea being the nurses and counselors would be able to identify the kids in need.
Well, as we understand it, the goal has changed. Beginning later this year, “The Eyes of a Champion” program is expected to be expanded into cities throughout the Southeastern Conference.
Now that’s worth a standing ovation.
