Fayetteville Kids Get Serious About Safety
If you’re like us, a carload of teenagers in the next lane can be a little unsettling. You just never know about kids today, right?
It turns out you might can relax that grip on the steering wheel if the kids have a Fayetteville High School parking sticker on their ride. Sponsored by FHS teacher Connie Crisp, a group of Fayetteville students is among 11 finalists for a $10,000 grant connected to a safe-driving program.
Project Ignition is sponsored by State Farm and coordinated by the National Youth Leadership Council, and aims to make high-schoolers more aware of the dangers of risky behavior behind the wheel. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, after all, almost 6,000 15-to 20-year-old drivers were involved in fatal crashes in the United States in 2008.
Fayetteville’s team of teens developed a campaign called “It Only Takes a Second,” and will attend a conference March 24-27 in San Jose, Calif., where the national winner will be announced.
