The Fort Smith Little Theatre opened its doors Feb. 18 for its first production of 2010.  The gala opening drew 125 patrons to see the play “Dearly Beloved” which was set in a small town in Fayro, Texas, where many people were involved in the upcoming nuptials of Tina Jo Dubberly and Parker Price. As love would have it, these two were from different worlds.

FLST Gala ticket holders were treated to hors d’oeuvres and champagne before the play began. When the play was ready to start, the patrons were ushered in and encouraged to get comfortable and enjoy the show.

During the play, the audience erupted with laughter from the southern charm and the witty lines of the characters. Anyone from a small town can relate to this play. From one woman being pregnant to another going through the change of life, there were many twists and turns along the way. The ending was unexpected and quite funny.

The audience gave a standing ovation at the end of the play to show their approval for the performance. Anyone who needs a little laugh to escape today’s economic pressures should see this play.

For anyone who has never been in a play or involved with helping in a play, there is more to it than just learning lines. There are numerous rehearsals, putting on makeup, and changing wardrobes. And there are people who make the wardrobes. Let’s not forget the props, the lighting, and the sound.  You also have to have a stage manager, set crew, producers and a director. The cast and crew of “Dearly Beloved” pulled off a solid performance to begin 2010.
