Federal funds totaling more than $164,000 will soon flow to area fire departments from a grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. Arkansas fire departments will receive $733,197 in federal grants through the program.

Area fire departments receiving grants were:
• Greenwood Fire Department (Greenwood) – $99,513
• Ink Rural Volunteer Fire Department (Mena) – $38,475
• Acorn Volunteer Fire Department (Mena) – $26,662

“This funding will go a long way in ensuring Arkansas’s first responders are properly equipped and prepared to respond to fires and other emergencies,” noted U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., in a statement. “I am committed to securing federal funds for firefighters who work tirelessly to keep Arkansas’s communities safe.”
