Forty Under 40: Rebecca Hurst, 31
Visiting all 50 states is on Rebecca Hurst’s bucket list. The Clarksville native is off to a good start — she’s got 36 under her belt, thanks in part to her father’s career in the U.S. Air Force.
Hurst graduated from Arkansas State University with a bachelor’s in accounting in 2001, then joined Beverly Enterprises, what was at the time a publicly traded nursing home company located in Fort Smith, where she was a corporate accountant for about a year.
In 2002, Hurst started law school at the University of Arkansas, where she was the executive editor of the Arkansas Law Review. In 2006, she earned her master’s in taxation from New York University School of Law.
Her practice is mostly involved with estate and tax planning, trust services and probate issues.
She was recently asked to be on the Northwest Arkansas Estate Planning Council and is on the steering committee for the area Komen Foundation Race for the Cure.
Hurst is also an adjunct professor at the UA where she teaches a federal estate and gift tax class in the fall and estate planning in the spring.
She counts developing her practice and helping people address their estate planning needs as her career highlights to date.
“That’s why I like what I do, because I feel like I’m helping people take care of their families,” she said.
