Official call made for Christmas Honors support

The time has now come to pick up and store the 12,000 wreaths, which will commence this Sunday, January 10, 2010 starting at 9 a.m. Volunteers are asked to meet either at the Fort Smith National Cemetery or the Fort Smith Convention Center (Exhibit Hall C, the South Hall). Teams will be working to pick up and transport wreaths from the cemetery to the convention center where they will be dried out if needed and stored.

Baldor Electric has volunteered to provide the annual storage and transportation to their storage facility for the program.

Also, the Christmas Honors team will have memorable photo montages provided by Bedford Camera & Video available for sale. The cost for an 8.5 x 11 photo is $5 and an 11×17 is $10. In addition to the photos, a new Christmas Honors DVD that captured the entire event from the wreath assembly to the candlelight vigil will be on sale for $15/each. The DVD was produced by 5 Star Productions. These items are wonderful to keep in memory of the first annual Christmas Honors program and/or send to family members who weren’t able to attend.

Saturday, December 12, 2009, citizens of the Greater Fort Smith Region transformed the Fort Smith National Cemetery by placing one wreath on each of the 12,000 headstones in honor of the servicemen and women of our community, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
