KFSM-TV, Channel 5 is the leader in three time slots in which local news is broadcast, according to the latest ratings by Nielsen Media Research for November.

The CBS affiliate led at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. for the 11-county designated market area, which includes nine counties in Arkansas and two in Oklahoma.

The Business Journal typically ranks stations in a sub-DMA, which includes only Benton, Madison and Washington counties, but sources and the stations declined to supply those numbers.

The ABC affiliate KHBS/KHOG-TV, Channels 40/29 ranked second in all three slots (the KHOG portion of the station is Northwest Arkansas and the KHBS is Fort Smith).

KNWA-TV, the NBC affiliate, came in third in all three slots.

Fox affiliate KFTA-TV, Channel 24 has a 9 p.m. newscast and is not comparable to the other three stations, but its 9 p.m. newscast is rated.

KHBS is also looking for a new general manager. Jim Prestwood, former market president and general manager, left the station in mid-December. No reason was given and he is bound by a contract to not discuss his separation, he said. Prestwood worked at KHBS for about eight-and-a-half years.

The station recently appointed a new news director, Dawn Dugle, who was previously an assistant news director at WAPT-TV in Jackson, Miss. Dugle is replacing Mike Courington.
